Bathroom renovation

Bathrooms are a hard working part of a building, requiring special consideration during design, build and renovation. Daily use, personal safety, high traffic, large water spills, high humidity, harsh cleaners and sometimes vandalism need to be taken into consideration before a bathroom project begins to ensure exceptional performance under all of these conditions.

Some common bathroom problems and how to prevent them:

  • Large (and small) water spills flow under baseboards, into heat runs, around tub and shower joints and cause severe damage to the sub floor and ceiling of rooms below. Your bathroom renovation will have no place for water to escape from the room (except the entrance door) , allowing complete and harmless clean up of all water spills.
  • Regular tile grout joints get nasty because they are porous in nature. They soak up water, soap scum, and mildew, making cleaning a nightmare. Your bathroom renovation will have tile joints filled with a high tech joint grout, which is completely impervious to all moisture, mildew, and soap scum, which will make the joints as easy to clean as any other hard surface in the bathroom.
  • Regular kitchen/bath sealants (silicone or acrylic/latex based caulks) usually fail in a short time. Seperation from the surface, mildew stains, hardening, etc... are common. Your bathroom renovation will use extreme duty, urethane based sealants that will perform superbly for decades, adhering tenaciously to the surfaces they are applied to while providing superior flexibility and cleaning properties.
  • Bathrooms built a few decades ago tended to be much smaller than bathrooms built today. Your bathroom renovation will incorporate many design elements to use the available space in the most efficient manner.
  • Existing bathrooms may lack proper safety considerations for electrical applications, high strength/safety glass items, grab bars, hand rails, slip resistance, lighting, ADA accessibility, ventilation, etc... Your bathroom renovation will address these safety issues as required by Michigan Residential Code, and any special features that may be helpful for your particular application.
